About the Artist

After retiring from a long career in human resources, Mort Miller relocated to Sarasota, Florida in 2000.  Since then, he has been devoted to his lifelong interest in art.  He has been especially taken with the local beach scene, using acrylics to paint vacationers sunning, strolling, and wading along the Siesta and Lido Key shores.

The imaginative doodles on this website were done during the many hours spent in HR meetings. They were in demand among his peers, who found them amusing insights into Mort’s highly individual—and sometimes skewed—take on the world.

Recently, he has been concentrating on figure drawings. With a few bold ink strokes and washes, his unique drawings capture the essence of the human body and of a model’s mood while posing: sometimes serene, sometimes tolerant, sometimes just bored. His keen eye and gentle sense of humor reveal themselves in his art, whatever the medium.

Mort studied with Emil Maurer, Julie Hanson, and at the Cornell University College of Architecture and Fine Arts.  Since the early 1970’s, his work has been on display in homes and offices nationally and internationally.
